Cross Professional Supervisory Practice

Maria Is A Member Of The Supervisor’s Association Of Ireland (SAI) And Holds A Masters Degreee In Cross Professional Supervisory Practice.  She Supervises  Practitioners Working Within The Broader Range Of The Professions. Including Business And Executive Coaches, Life Coaches, Social Workers, Nurses, Teachers, Fire-Fighters, Guards, Spiritual Directors, Volunteers, Community Workers And People Working
Within The Medical Field.

Regular supervision, for practitioners working within the caring professions and the service industries continues to gain recognition as being vital to the on-going holistic care of people who are at the frontline when trauma and painful social issues require their expertise.  Vicarious trauma and burnout, are two of the main contributors to stress related medical conditions which result in absenteeism.

There is also a growing awareness within the corporate sector, primarily as a result of the effects of the current economic crises and the many challenges facing employees, management and policy makers, of the need for a form of supervision which empowers and supports both the decision makers and the workforce. Many business organisations have a strong in-house coaching ethic to help develop their people.  It has become apparent that business coaches require support in the form of  supervision
which is not focused on the organisational goals.

The Model Used In Supervising Practitioners Across The Professions Differs From A Line-Management Model Of Supervision In That It Works With The Emotional Effect On Practitioners Who Are Exposed On A Regular Basis To The Painful Human Situations Encountered By Them In The Course Of Their Work.
